The Army Medical Department Center & School (AMEDD C&S) developed a wallet-size Tick-Borne

Diseases card as an official Graphic Training Aid (GTA) in 1989. The U.S. Army Center for Health Promotion &

Preventive Medicine (USACHPPM, then the U.S. Army Environmental Hygiene Agency, USAEHA) assisted in its

development. The card is available as a Department of the Army (DA) procurement item through local Training

Support Centers (TSCs). Order GTA 8-5-56. There is no cost to Army components.

GTA 8-5-56 is a 2-inch X 3.5-inch, two-sided plastic impregnated tan wallet card that provides color

photographs of the adult female deer tick and American dog tick. It also includes basic symptoms of Lyme

disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever on the front, and route of exposure to these diseases, diagnosis,

treatment, and preventive measures on the back.
